Spanning over 7 years of its lifetime, Destiny 2 has continued to release content at a pretty steady rate, meaning that if you want to get into this game as of right now you’re arriving at the party pretty late. In this article, I seek to make this arrival easier on you by giving you some tips I wish someone told me before I started.
Of course if you’re coming to the game this late you might want to seek out Destiny 2 boosting services and there’s nothing wrong with it. By taking advantage of this you can acquire high ranks and unique gear faster than just playing the game, and I know I appreciated the grinding time this cut off for me.
Free to play content
I love destiny 2 and when my friends and I started it I rushed to purchase every campaign I could without even knowing just how much content I would be able to enjoy before hitting the paywall. There’s over 50 hours of content to play through in Destiny 2 before hitting any sort of wall. This includes 2 expansions, “Shadow keep” and “beyond light” This means you’re in no rush if you just started the game, of course you’re free to get them at any point, but you have assaults, raids and some other activities to partake in. Most importantly, this means your friends will be easier to persuade when it comes to trying this game!
Don’t upgrade blue gear
There are rarities in Destiny 2 much like any other MMO and in this game you upgrade your power very quickly and with these upgrades you also get better rarities of weapons. I don’t recommend you waste precious resources in upgrading these blue colored gear, as it’ll become obsolete pretty quickly. Use is as much as you want and then dismantle it as soon as you’re done.
Pay attention to weekly activities
At some point, while you’re trying to gather more and more power to play some of the latest content, you’ll hit a soft cap. The only way to upgrade your gear and power after this will be to do the weekly activities, particularly the ones that have a golden circle icon next to the activity’s name. This circle means that you have not yet finished the activity and can gather good gear from it. This is vital, specially early on!
Don’t overthink builds
Destiny is unlike many other MMOs in the sense that it’s a lot more action oriented than most. In this game, it’s pretty hard to create a character that’s not effective in battle. It’s as easy as equipping the gear with the highest number attached to it, and you’ll be set for the hardest challenges. You also don’t really have to worry about which class to play as. If a class looks good to you, just choose it. There’s not really any sort of composition that you’re trying to get like you would in other games of the genre.
Do not ignore mods
Gear mods can be pretty confusing, specially when you first join the game, but it’s a vital system to comprehend. You’ll need it later on when enemies start having special characteristics that mods provide special help for, such as shield damage and the such. I recommend you get familiar with the system as soon as possible.
Play the campaign in legendary difficulty
It’s hard! But once you finish it, you will have enough power to face almost every piece of content in the game, and you’ll be granted a very nice looking gear set to flaunt your achievement. If you want to hit the cap quick and you like challenges, this is extremely useful!
Do every expansion in order
Once you’re done with the free content you will probably want to try out some of the next campaign expansions and you should! However, I would recommend you do them in the order that they released. Not because you won’t understand the story, as these are mainly stand-alone in nature, and you won’t be confused at all. With every releasing piece of content, Destiny 2 adds more and more mechanics that make the game more engaging and fun. If you try, say, the latest content and then go back to the previous ones, you might just find it kind of lackluster.
There are plenty of third party resources
Handling all your gear can be pretty exhausting, but luckily the community made a lot of extremely useful tools such as the “Destiny Item manager” that lets you move your gear from your character to the vault and vice versa. It also gives you tips on what gear best fits your character, and create wishlists for gear that the site can tell you how to get!
How to get your sparrow
Destiny 2 has a vehicle you can use to move around the world quickly, but it won’t give it to you unless you finished the main campaign or reached level 20. So either grind the levels or beeline towards finishing the campaign, so the slowest part of the game can be expedited!
Join a clan
Just being part of a clan will give you an XP gain boost and gives you access to new activities. You’ll also have a direct line to experienced players that can give you tips about the game if they’re nice enough!
In conclusion
Destiny 2, being the huge game that it is, can be pretty intimidating from the outside, and it does have a lot to learn with its vast systems and the sheer amount of them. But don’t worry too much about it. The most important part is that you have fun playing it. And fun it is! Participate in raids, become friends with your clan mates and experience the great set pieces that the campaigns offer and create powerful guardians. It’s extremely fun!
